About Navigate Classes

Navigate Classes is your new and improved class search experience designed for and with students like you.

This new class search application is part of a much larger effort to bring you a unified platform of connected tools that provide a seamless experience to navigate your academic journey at Stanford. Called the Stanford Navigator, the full platform will provide a single place for you to explore academic program offerings, plan classes and enroll in them, declare a major and track your progress towards graduation.

For now, Navigate Classes is the first piece of that experience, empowering you with more ways to discover Stanford’s incredibly rich class offerings. It will eventually replace Explore Courses, a homegrown Stanford application that’s more than 12 years old.

Highlights of Navigate Classes

Key features of this new class search experience include:

  • Expanded options to filter and narrow in on class offerings. Filter by subject area, instructor, school, and whether a class has open seats.
  • A powerful search feature that allows you to search by keyword, subject code, class title, class number, and more.
  • A design approach that allows for easy browsing and discovery without getting lost pages deep in the application.
  • Curated class lists to explore areas of interest for 1 and 2 units of credit, as well as introductory classes recommended for freshmen or any undergraduate student curious to learn about a new field.
  • Robust information on each class including grading basis, final exam schedule, enrollment data, associated sections, reserved seating, rules and requisites, textbooks and materials, instructor information, and more.
  • Clear information on how to enroll in the same class if it’s offered by more than one department under different names.
  • A mobile responsive design, which means the content layout automatically adjusts to the size of the device being used to optimize the user experience.

What You Can Expect Next

Throughout 2024, we will continue to add features, functionality, and expanded information into the Navigate Classes to deliver even more value to you. For example, our roadmap includes adding syllabi, evaluations, and more curated class lists.

We also plan to launch a few more Navigator experiences in the 2024-25 academic year. Those include:

  • Navigate Programs: a robust academic program application to allow students to discover from more than 300 undergraduate, graduate, and coterminal program offerings and requirements at Stanford.
  • Navigate Enrollment: a redesigned and personalized enrollment experience that will allow students to search, plan, and enroll in classes all in one place.
